March 2021 Poetry of Nature Walk + Poems

Morton Arboretum| Lisle, Illinois

In March 2021, we went in search of any signs of spring after quite cold and snowy spell on a pop-up surprise walk at Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois outside Chicago. It gave the literal breath of fresh air of a sunny day after a very grey winter and a figurative one of being in a different state after a very long run of staying in place in Vermont due to covid. To the delight of our participants from Vermont, Connecticut and Australia (where autumn was just beginning), we discovered floral life popping up all around with the most delightful surprise of the beautiful yellow blooms and unbelievably heady fragrance of witch hazel.

How do we know spring time thaw
without the winter outbreath?
Green gamboges brown
Purple shows us blue
Fragrance of surprise warms brow.
